With its 180 employees, YBM Sisa.com, the biggest publishing company in Korea, had married the foreign language capacity and the entertainment and heads for being the best ¡®edutainment¡¯ content developer company. Currently, this YBM Sisa.com is operating various e-learning sites to its members: e4u cyber institute (the internet language institution for adults); YBM TMK(www.ybmtmk.com), the English leaning site; YBMkids (www.ybmkids.com) for children learning site; a English specialized knowledge search site(www.ybmezin.com), YBM Pro (www.ybmpro.com) for certificates and test for employment or job promotions.
Based on its strength in foreign languages, YBM Sisa.com is expanding its business range to ¡®edutainment¡¯ contents. YBM Sisa.com had published in past 9,000 English learning materials and magazines and converted all the data and contents of publications into digital contents in order to recycle the contents for continuous use, to develop the digital editing system which can save the expenses related to the printing and its tasks, to improve the market responsiveness through the cooperation supporting system among the workers, and lastly, to minimize all the costs related to the publishing.

In exception of independent volumes, in order to print high the quality manuals, pamphlets and magazines, the combination of Mac and QuarkXPress environment is set as the standard criteria for high quality DTP press editing and printing in domestic market. The Mac+Quark environment offers an advantage of getting the quality prints, but due to the lack of incompatibility with output data, the limited re-use of outputs and its limited printing environment are making hard for the industries to save the time and cost. The primary project draft is created in the Word Processor based on window, however once the draft is inputted in Mac + Quark environment, the repetitive processes of input -> off line printing -> delivery -> editing -> transfer -> editing are inevitable. From the initial draft creation, once the additional project data is inputted in Mac+Quark environment, the bottleneck state starts to take an effect and the primary off line printing -> delivery -> batch 1 -> delivery -> batch 2¡¦ batch N -> delivery -> completion -> delivery -> printing chain process is repeated. The output obtained from the middle this chain process is an off line document that is not recyclable and the final output file is not recyclable either due to its incompatibility.
Within the primary stage of the IECS for the Publishing Industry¡¯ system, the primary draft and project planning are inputted in file formats and the related files are sent to the Quark users. The revision and editing processes are transferred and circulated through the central data storage system and the internet and the outputs or residual products from the process cycle are stored and managed as digital contents for future recycle. So, all the outputs and various structured contents are re-used in enterprise intranet, KM, portals and etc via the parameters of Web and Mobile Devices (Phone, Smart Phone, PDA, HSDPA, WiBro, DMB).

The implementation process got started from the last year¡¯s April and completed this year¡¯s January and the test system was applied until the March for the publication of dictionaries and independent volumes. One of the characteristics of YBM Sisa.com¡¯s system is that the work output created from the Macintosh environment can be verified in any operating systems through the step of postscript file, and the system can apply the state-technology of creating image files which can be verified in any web-browsers. This created image files are transferred to the revisers or editors, and there is no need for the printing out in papers during repetitive revision process due to its developed digital editing and image editor features.
As the content got digitalized, instead of only managing the output files to be printed, the systematic storage and structured management of its first draft, the prints¡¯ outputs and metadata are possible. Through the implementation of IECS for the Publishing Industry, YBM Sisa.com improved its productivity, made changes in its publishing processes, and increased the production level by re-using its annual hundreds of books; publication.
