iMBC

After introducing the ICS4, iMBC has experienced an increase of speed by 50%, the number of page views and visitors by 30% and the cost reduction effects by 40%.

In a conventional method, the content creator had to manually program in the HTML format, deploy the content by FTP, and then 600,000 contents were serviced through the database. So, there were many system downs and service errors due to the decrease in performance of the database server. However, after the ICS4 installation, the service got stabilized and with the reservation service functionality, the manager can set the reservation time in advance, it is possible to deploy any articles without the manager. Currently, the number of iMBC¡¯s daily visitors is about 500,000 persons without considering its website access numbers. Also, iMBC is realizing an increase of profits by charging the script preview or previews of T.V episodes. - iMBC System Development Team, Chief Officer, Nam Hoon Lee

iMBC was incorporated in March 2000, as the internet subsidiary company of MBC Media group and is growing as a digital content expert company in order to prepare the fast evolving digital environment. By ensuring the content digitalization process of all the MBC broadcasting programs, they are pursuing the digital content creation, development and distribution business by providing the digitalized contents via the internet, mobile, mobile broadcasting, ISP and its international distributors. Through its www.imbc.com website, iMBC operates the best multimedia service portal in South Korea by providing various contents of television broadcast, entertainment, sport, education, and life information. Also, with the mobile broadcast (through metro, bus and the public transportation) and its partnership with mobile telecommunication company, they are servicing the clips and the broadcast contents to the user¡¯s mobile phone or device iMBC is an influential internet broadcasting company in South Korea by servicing various programs that have been broadcasted through T.V or radio. In result, they required building an efficient and cooperative infrastructure which could provide this kind of online content services, whereas the system needed to be centralized and scalable for contents management/operation, site storage, and bottleneck reduction.

Due to the absence of centralized infrastructure of content storage, operation and management, it was hard to ensure the reliability of the content of deployment process because of all the factors such as lack of efficient distribution of work, content aggregation, creation, management and manual deploy process.
As well as, in case of the site management, each service site manager program exists in separate way, and web pages are manually serviced through HTML files without management program. So, all the service factors of website are not coherently and systematically operated and it was impossible to reuse the outputs resulted from the previous work.
Without an integrative environment and professional content management strategy, the biggest problem was to manage its offered services, evaluate the work volume for service expansion and required a lot of time and effort to handover tasks.

Due to the fact that it is a broadcast¡¯s portal, once a new article is registered, this article is exposed as a headline article or as representative article in a section of various websites. All those complex link connections are systematically processed. Also, the most important factor when deploying the article is the promptness, by using the sentinel service, it is possible to deploy articles in real time and the service speed has been increased by 50%. In a conventional method, the content creator had to manually program in the HTML format, deploy the content by FTP, and then 600,000 contents were serviced through the database. So, there were many system downs and service errors.
The page view¡¯s number also got increased by 16~17 million views per day with an average increase of 30%. Also, iMBC realized an increase of profits by charging the script previews and T.V episodes¡¯ previews. In last, the efficiency of management through content integration and specified management got increased by saving over 40% of cost reduction.
